No more Ventilator!

Monday, August 25, 2008
Today was a good day, the Doctors turned off all the sedatives and and the ventilator with no complications.  She also had most of the other lines pulled out of her except for her central line. She still has a lot of the meds in her system so she is groggy but she is stable.  Tonight Grace is supposed to start trying to nurse again.  We did not have any luck the first try but, like I said, she still has a lot of meds in her and she is pretty groggy.  At least Grace got some cuddle time.

The Doctors are still at a loss for what caused the problem, but for now things seem to be looking up.  The next battle is, once she starts eating again, if it makes her sick then we will know for sure there is a metabolic problem.  We are estimating we will be in the hospital at least another 9 days or so for monitoring and to finish off the round of antibiotics they started just in case that is what is making her better.  So far all the test that have came back clear but there are still a few test they expect in the next few days, and then even more genetic test that will not be back for a week or even more.

We let the Grandmas sit with her a while this afternoon while we spent some time with our oldest daughter, Elisa.  Elisa very clearly missed her Mommy and got very excited to see her.  It was nice for Grace as well as she was feeling bad about not getting to be around her.

I am planning on going back to work on Wednesday, as things seem to be stable and we are more than likely not going to know many more details for a while, not to mention we are getting ready to have one heck of a medical bill and I only have so many vacation days.  Not that I am that worried about how we will pay them, the Lord has always provided for us and I have faith this will be no different.

I'm so glad she came off the ventilator well! It will take some time for her to perk up...her little body has been hit with a lot the past few days. Wish we could give you guys a hug...we're praying for you!

Grace, you may or may not remember me. I am praying for you. When you were about 16, I stayed with your family for a week or so while in Tulsa. I was on furlough from South Africa. I am praying for you, your husband, Evelyn and all the Millers (I don't know the Powells but God does!) In Christ, Dorothy Chick
